I’ve started somewhat collecting blu-rays again. I had sold off my entire collection about a year or so ago, but now things are more settled and I have enough time to collect a little. Keeping it real little though.

I did buy Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Been wanting to watch it again.

Well, it looks like I'll be buying The Lord of the Rings films again for the fourth time.

I'm good with my blu-ray's for the Hobbit movies though..

I'm good with the 3D for the Hobbit. Wouldn't mind 4K digital for them though.

Torn on 4K LOTR. Sure I want it, but I'm trying to sell stuff as is to pay bills.

I've been thinning out my collection slightly honestly, mostly keeping the highest quality versions of movies I had multiples of for space and redundancy's sake. I swore when I started buying 4K that I wasn't going to buy my collection over again, but I've done a terrible job of that so far. I will say that this will probably be the last physical format I buy as I doubt we get anything physically that looks and sounds better than this.

I do want this though as supposedly these masters have been in the works for 4-5 years and the Blu-rays were good but not spectacular (and the theatrical cuts have some egregious DNR). I can't imagine the Hobbit films being more than upscales with HDR applied though and don't love them enough to buy again immediately. Maybe a good sale or used down the line will change my mind though.

With the XBOX Series X coming and my new 4K TV, I have finally dove in to some 4K movies. So far its just the complete Skywalker Saga (only own it on standard DVD and VHS) and Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame (never owned either).

I'm also upgrading a few from standard DVD to Blu-Ray that are long overdue:

Original Spider-Man Trilogy
The complete SAW Series (I only like/own 1-3 but I couldn't pass up the full series for $12)

I really avoid double dipping but these all felt like good values to me.

I debated 4K but the cost for the 4K vs. blu ray was like a $60 swing and it wasnt worth it for me.

Upon further review, I see alot of people saying the 4K transfer isnt that great either. I'm not really a snob so I don't think I'll mind sticking with the Blu. Plus it was already bought for me for Christmas and I don't wanna make my mom have to return anything so *shrug*

if its a gift that's understandable.

I own this, it's excellent in 4K. most Sony releases for catalog releases are fresh scans, they are probably the most consistent studio for 4K. you're pretty safe buying any Sony 4K unless its a new(er) release

Yeah, Sony catalogue titles are some of the best looking of any studio releasing 4K at the moment (Disney probably is the worst for 4K presentation, and it's mostly just because they put the least effort into their releases, not that they're unwatchable messes). I do wish Sony hadn't gone for the IMAX enhanced thing for new releases though, it feels like that process introduced a bit of unnecessary digital noise reduction to those releases.

Back to the Future looks incredible in 4K! It's the closest to looking like a 35 mm film projected I've seen it since I saw it in the theater in 1985.

Ordered The Beastmaster and Dial Code Santa Claus from Vinegar Syndrome this morning. Hopefully, it won't be months before I receive the order.

It's looking more and more like my order was lost or stolen. Got the notification from FedEx on Saturday that my package had been delivered. Got home and nothing was there. I called FedEx and they basically said there was nothing they could do and to contact Vinegar Syndrome. I sent them an email and they told me to wait a few days as FedEx has a tendency to Mark orders as delivered despite not getting it out to meet a delivery quota. They did say they would ship replacements if they didn't come in a few days. It's been 5 days now, I'm thinking that wasn't the case either so I'm going to probably have to send for a replacement.

My Black Friday order took about a week after I got shipping confirmation so I wouldn't right it off yet.

I surprisingly got my Ultraman Taro Bluray the day after release when it took over a week to get my Ace preorder

I waited until today to give them ample time and still nothing. I finally contacted Vinegar Syndrome earlier and they're replacing my order and doing 2 day shipping since I waited so long. I have to say I like that they went that far for me since it was lost in transit hell.

Yeah, it makes me want to continue to use them. I try to avoid Amazon as much as possible as it is an awful company.
