A New Pop Punk (and the like) Album Every Week!

Post by Joe »

So when the year started, I decided I wanted to try and listen to a newly released pop punk or like genre album every single week. Apple Music makes it easy, and the pop punk subreddit has a post every week listing new releases.

Admittedly some weeks have had nothing that I enjoyed enough to actually listen all the way through. And some weeks have had more than one album, but that’s been rare too.

Anyway, I’m going to post here what I’ve listened to in this so far and I’ll update it as I go along!

So far this year, I’ve listened to and can mostly recommend (in release order):

With Abandon - Keepsakes

Cliffhanger - Self Titled

Only Liars - Grow & Prosper - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Spanish Love Songs - Brave Faces Everyone - Seriously one of my favorite albums ever and a new top five favorite band. I love this!

Chase Your Words - Sayonara (EP)

The Wonder Years - Burst & Decay Volume II - I’m a sucker for acoustic arrangements of songs and TWY, so I’m a big fan of this.

I’ll add more soon!

Free Throw - Swig - It’s a two song EP and I don’t like it as much as their album from last year, but it’s fun enough.

Our Last Night - Hot Girl Bummer (Single) - Yes it’s a cover and yes it’s even better than the original, which I think is a great song on its own.

Four Year Strong - Brain Pain - I love FYS but I’m not in love with this album yet. Some songs are good, some border more on annoying. I’ll give it more listens for sure.

Falling In Reverse - The Drug In Me Is Reimagined (Single) - Love this way more than the original!

Silverstein - A Beautiful Place To Drown - I’m a fan, Silverstein definitely still has it.

Hot Mulligan - You’ll Be Fine - Probably my second favorite album this year so far after Spanish Love Songs. Just great stuff. Can’t recommend it enough.

It's going to be hard for Free Throw to beat their album from last year.

Yes! Their album last year was one of my favorites (behind In Her Own Words and maybe Greyscale). I was so bummed to miss the Wonder Years tour earlier this year that had them, Free Throw and Spanish Love Songs all on the bill. I missed their NYC show but was thinking of catching the Philly show at the end of the tour schedule, but of course that has been postponed or cancelled, either way.

I was trying to go to the Philly show too. I was already booked for the Baltimore date.

I think my album of the year last year was either them or Oh, Sleeper

Joe, did you ever listen to older AFI? They got way too cheesy for my tastes on Sing The Sorrow, but everything up to Black Sails in the Sunset is good stuff in my opinion.

Sing The Sorrow was actually the first album of theirs I listened to. Never Ives them before CM Punk uses them as a theme.
