WCW 1998!

Post by Joe »

We’re here! I made it! The most important year in the history of our great sport!

Not really, but I’m excited.

Nitro has begun! And the nWo is showing up in two different limos. Looks like things aren’t all rainbows and butterflies in the ranks of the New World Order!

So they can’t show us how Sting vs Hogan ended last week because the video is “in a judge’s chamber”...but the video will be released in 24 hours and available conveniently in tune to air this Thursday at 8:05 eastern on the debut of Thunder!

Temper tantrum Jericho may become one of my favorite things in WCW. And DDP made short work of him here.

It’s seriously really crazy seeing how excited the crowd was for Goldberg. He couldn’t not become a huge star. And this is early into his career. I doubt WCW thought he’d get as big as he did so quickly.

I think Smackdown needs a dance crew. Like the Smackdown Chicks. It worked for the Nitro Girls!

It took me a minute to realize John Nord is the Berzerker!

And he used Tazz’s catchphrase. “Beat me if you can.”

And now I’m watching The Berzerker vs The Barbarian in 1998. Cause WCW.

Juventud vs Psychosis had good moments, but also bear death moments and missed spot moments. So you know, typical WCW lucha.

And now they’re reminding us of the week randomly last April where they teased an nWo breakup. So nice to pick that storyline up 9 months later.

The ending of the January 5th Nitro was actually quite fire. Savage coming to blows to Bischoff. Hogan coming out to push Savage. The nWo is falling apart at the seams!

Yeah that actually got me excited.

This was where Jericho's character really came into focus, of course WCW being WCW completely squandered the opportunity they had here.

Just started dvd first ever Thunder!

And the first ten minutes was just Nitro recap.

And then Randy Savage vs Chris Adams. But then Lex Luger shows up and gives Savage a chairshot that was literally Savage, and business picks up!

WHAT?! Did they really just hold up the WCW Title?! Sting isn’t the champion anymore?!

The 1/12 Nitro was actually pretty great. I’m loving the Nash/Giant feud. Loving that the roster was what it was to the point where Benoit vs Malenko could just randomly happen. Loving the Jericho goes crazy heel turn. And honestly loving the nWo inner fighting. Savage was the perfect guy to start causing this year in the family. Oh and I’m actually sort of loving Goldberg and how crazy over he is.

I'm almost done with the second episode of Thunder. Much better than the first episode. Wrestling highlight is probably the Jericho vs. Eddie Guerrero match, which was almost great besides Jericho almost dying. He did that a lot early on in his WCW run. It's a wonder he's alive to main event the Tokyo Dome 20 years later.

Oh and I'm quite enjoying the breakdown of the nWo. I still think using Savage as the catalyst for that made a ton of sense! That's what happens when you release the madness!

I’m watching Eddie Guerrero vs Rick Martel on Nitro. In 1998. Soooo weird!

Guerrero is crazy over with the crowd. So naturally he’s the one of the two not being pushed at all right now.

Not for nothing, but Souled Out was a fantastic show. The undercard really killed. The six-man lucha tag, Raven vs. Benoit, and Rey vs. Jericho were all great! Even Rick Martel vs. Booker T was really good. And I can't lie, I kind of loved the Nash vs. Giant match. Helps being 20 years in the future and knowing Giant didn't die on the power bomb. Overall this was just some great wrestling through and through. Oh and Bret vs. Flair! That was fantastic too!Great show all the way around.
